Home > Our Name
Throughout its development, the Centre has been known as Kāpiti Performing Arts’ Centre, or more commonly just KPAC. Kāpiti College has had a long association with Parihaka and Te Atiawa. In 2019, we approached Parihaka to seek their advice on a name. We visited each of the three marae and discussed naming our Centre. The Raukura (feathers) are hugely important to Parihaka and they generously gifted the name to our Centre at the blessing on 15th February 2020. Like Parihaka, the Centre welcomes all, in a spirit of peace and goodwill. The three raukura in our logo tie to the overarching values of Parihaka.
Kororia ki te Atua
Manga-a-Rongo ki runga i te whenua
Whakaaro Pai ki nga tangata katoa
Our commitment is to honour the legacy of Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi and Parihaka mai ai.
The logo was developed by Gina Goad and Manawa. The feathers represent the values of Parihaka, gifted to Kāpiti and poised just above the fretwork representing the whenua.
